Districts 1, 4 & 5 are up for election but Karm Bains in District 4 is unopposed

The Sutter County Republican Central Committee met with Sutter County Supervisor District 1 and 5 candidates on Thursday, December 14th. The committee deferred any endorsement action until our January 11th meeting. The purpose of the delay was to gather more information about the candidates.

An email was sent out on Friday, December 15th to every member of the Central Committee as well as everyone that attended the meeting. We let eveyrone know that we will pass along additional information as it becomes available.

District 1

Nick Micheli (Incumbent)

Jeff Boone

District 5

Mat Conant (Incumbent)

Jeff Stephens

Issues

Natomas Basin Development

It was clear from listening to Supervisor comments that Sutter County is looking for tax revenue from commercial and especially from industrial development in the Natomas Basin to supplement the very strained Sutter County budget.

We’re committed to helping elect candidates up and down the ticket and were proud to have provided an unprecedented level of support to local candidates in 2022. Especially exciting was the success of our Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts. We helped turn our 9.1% registration advantage over Democrats in Sutter County (40.1% to 31.0%) into a 21.1% advantage at the polls in the General election (Republicans accounted for 50.2% of all returned ballots compared to just 29.1% returned by Democrats).

We can’t take all of the credit for the voter turnout numbers but our successful GOTV efforts made all the difference in Greg Quilty’s 14 vote victory in Yuba City Unified School District’s Trustee Area 5 race! His 844 to 830 victory means that the Republicans now hold 4 of the 7 seats on the YCUSD board and we’re not done yet.

We’re taking the lessons learned in 2022 and scaling those up to be able to offer support to Republican candidates in every corner of Sutter County. One of our main goals is to complete the job in the Yuba City Unified School District. There are three seats up for election. One of those is held by Republican Jasmin Dhami and we’re committed to supporting her re-election effort. We’re also gearing up to win the other two seats!

The Yuba College Board of Trustees is also in our sights. That 7-member board is controlled by 6 liberals but 5 of those will be on the 2024 ballot.
